Londesborough Park’s ‘big’ weekend produced mixed
fortunes in terms of results but the ultimate goal was achieved with two
games to spare.
The
Beverley fixture saw the Park produce a low key performance as the
mindset concentrated on points accumulation rather than winning the
game.
Charlie Rook won his umpteenth toss and inserted the opposition who
produced a workmanlike performance without ever taking control. The
backbone of their total of 160 for 9 was provided by Tim Smith (43) and
Tim Fordon (33). Sam Medley was the Park’s most successful bowler once
again with 4 for 45 as the wicket offered little assistance to the pace
bowlers, the other wicket takers being Rook with 3 for 55 and Mike
Davies 2 for 27.
The
reply never really got out of first gear despite a solid contribution
from Big Bird with 42. No other batsman reached twenty as the
statisticians worked out how many points were required to ensure
Beverley were excluded from the promotion race. Wickets fell at regular
intervals as Sugden’s spin held sway and with the board displaying 109-8
there was a danger the many Park supporters would go home disappointed.
However the ‘Pilot’ and Jonathon Croft withstood the pressure to earn a
draw and the 6 points required to confirm back to back promotions for
the 1st XI- quite an achievement.
Congratulations to captain Charlie Rook and all players who have
represented the 1st XI. This week’s fixture at Osbaldwick
will no doubt be played in a carnival atmosphere but the league title is
still up for grabs. Thanks to last week’s ball sponsor the Post Office.
