Match Report

Londesborough Park’s 1st XI secured their fifth victory of the season against Dringhouses last Saturday but had to remain patient after the tea interval when, defending their total of 157, it appeared they would be home and hosed in record time.

Charlie Rook’s luck at the toss had to run out sometime and the Britcom sponsored Park was asked to take first knock in weather more akin to late March.  The pace of youngster Owen caused some alarms but it was fellow opener Crowe who struck first, Sam Medley scoring 106 less than last week (OK- a duck!).  Big Bird (30) and the skipper (40) produced a solid partnership before Crowe intervened with 3 more wickets.  Pace bowlers the ‘Ginger One’ and Mike Davies both hit double figures but the experienced Kenyon’s dibbley dobblers ensured the Park’s run rate was kept in check and despite a late flurry from Blaster and Rich Foster a final total of 157 was someway short of a par score.

The Pilot’s better half kindly provided tea and she must have certainly found the right recipe as the Park’s early performance in the field was nothing short of devastating.  Crowe was first to depart, tamely surrendering his wicket as he was left stranded half way down the pitch and considered making his way to the pavilion was a better option than trying to make his ground.  The ‘steaming in’ team of Rich Foster and the ‘Ginger One’ then took centre stage, aided by a catch and a smart stumping from Blaster, reducing the opposition to 13 for 7!  However youngsters Owen and Wilson showed significantly more aptitude than their predecessors and the early rush of wickets dried up.  Charlie Rook rang the changes but the batsmen stood firm in defence and put away the bad ball with ease.  An 8th wicket partnership of 71 was finally broken by Sam Medley’s first delivery, a wide short ball which Owen dragged onto his stumps.  Sam then judged a high catch well to give Tissy his 4th wicket and the 5th followed soon after to wrap up a 69 run victory which sees the Park remain toe to toe with Clifton Alliance in joint second place.

Thanks to match ball sponsor XYZ Printers.  Can the Park continue to enjoy ‘the sweet smell of success’ this week on the outskirts of ‘String of Beads’ at Whitkirk?

Londesborough Park 157 (C Rook 40, J Williamson 30, M Davies 26, M Kenyon 5-35, J Crowe 4-49) Dringhouses 88 (G Wilson 36, T Owen 28, M Tissiman 5-24, R Foster 3-25)
