With just four games of the season remaining the
Londesborough Park bandwagon rolls on following the tenth win of the
campaign against Dringhouses last Saturday. The club’s first visit to
St Helen’s Road in York produced another solid performance with all
eleven players contributing to a 5 wicket success.
The
home side’s batsmen were never allowed to take control on a good pitch
as the Park’s five pronged attack of Rich Foster, Mike Davies, James
Beevers, Sam Medley and Charlie Rook kept the run rate in check and were
once again supported for the most part by their colleagues in the
field. Davies struck first to dismiss the hard hitting Crowe courtesy
of Nelly Stephenson’s midriff. Young first change bowler Beevers was
next to strike with two wickets in his five over spell. Fossy and Sam
gave the middle order little chance of building an innings as the
opposition limped through to 94 for 7. The tail did wag a little as
Watmore and Wilson made the most of a spilled catch or two as
Dringhouses completed their allotted 45 overs on 137 for 9, Watmore top
scoring with 25 not out. Rich Foster was the pick of the bowlers
producing a typical miserly 20 over spell and taking 4 for 33 along the
way.
The
Britcom sponsored Park reply stuttered somewhat in the early stages.
Sam Medley’s commute from Devon appears to be taking its toll as he was
trapped LBW with the score on 12. The skipper’s commute from his
tractor had a similar effect as he was next to return to the sheds for
9. Big Bird’s target of a mention in despatches was cut short when his
fierce drive was juggled to safety by Lingard and he departed for 22.
Worse was to follow as the dismissals of Sam Dodd and Ben Lewis by the
wily spin of veteran Kenyon reduced the reply to a worrying 51 for 5.
However Mike Davies joined anchor man Neil Stephenson and this pairing
set about repairing the damage. Davies chanced his arm against Kenyon
to good effect and Stephenson, buoyed by a tête-a-tête with the keeper
as his bails were disturbed in dubious fashion, solidly defended the
other end. Dringhouses failed to make any further inroads as Davies
deservedly completed his half century, finishing with 53 not out and
Stephenson’s red inker comprised 34.
This
victory moves the Park into position A in division 2, 25 points clear of
Beverley who have played one game more and 29 ahead of Clifton
Alliance. This weekend’s double header is as big as it comes. Forth
placed Whitkirk visit the Park on Saturday with the little matter of a
trip to Beverley facing the 1st XI on Monday. Last week
match ball was kindly sponsored by KF Supplies.
