Match Report

Londesborough Park travelled to the wide expanses of New Earswick last Saturday with a new man at the helm, a blast from the past and ‘the pilot’ in the ranks to bolster a batting line up denied the services of  Charlie Rook, Big Bird, Ben Lewis and Michael Drewery.

Stand in skipper Mark Tissiman duly won the toss and took the new cherry with Rich Foster.  The lack of an early breakthrough saw the introduction of Yogi Youngman who struck early in his spell, bowling Craig Stimpson for 9.  Aussie Andy James dominated the run scoring and closed in on a half century until Mike Davies plucked a safe catch in the deep to end the antipodean’s knock on 47.  Sam Medley came on to operate in tandem with Yogi and the pairing took a wicket apiece with the score in the eighties courtesy of Sam Dodd and pilot Nettleton, making a welcome return to the fold and proving he can catch without big gloves on..  Brothers Andy and James Routledge began to master the swing of Youngman and spin of Medley, adding 50 for the fifth wicket until brother Andy fell to a catch by the skipper for 52 to give Yogi his fourth wicket.  That tally soon became six and a run out at the end of the innings left Earswick with 168 to defend.  Considering the Park unusually spilled 5 catches tea was taken with a satisfactory performance under the belt.

Sam Dodd partnered Sam Medley at the top of the order and the duo enjoyed a significant 1st wicket stand of 89, dominated by Medley who returned to his best form.  The demise of Dodd saw the return to the crease of former Park skipper and late of the golf course Nelly Stephenson who soon eased back into the groove and took the score to 100 with Medley before the latter was stumped off spinner Hewitson for a well deserved 79.  Mike Davies made a brief stay until Hewitson intervened to remove both him and Stephenson (19) which left the stage set for pilot Nettleton and Jonathon Croft, fresh from his half century for the 2nd XI, to steer the team home which they duly did without alarm to record a well earned 6 wicket win for the Britcom sponsored Park.

Congratulations to Mark Tissiman in his first game in charge, Yogi for his 6 for 55 and Sam Medley for his 79 with the bat.  Skipper Charlie Rook now has the unenviable task of picking a side for this week’s fixture at home to Osbaldwick.  Last week’s match ball was kindly sponsored by The Griffin.

New Earswick 168-8 (A Routledge 52, A James 47, J Routledge 30 n o. P Youngman 6-55) Londesborough Park 169-4 (S Medley 79, J Croft 27 n o, M Hewitson 4-53)
