Londesborough Park’s 1st XI brought their
best season in the York Senior League to end with a comfortable victory
over New Earswick and in so doing claimed the Division 2 championship,
topping the table 35 points clear of second placed Clifton Alliance.
In
typical glorious end of season conditions skipper Charlie Rook’s luck
with the toss returned and his opening bowlers Rich Foster and Mark
Tissiman both produced quality spells which had the opposition on the
back foot from the off. Fossy sent back Masheder and Andy Routledge
without a run to their names and Tissy’s 11 over spell for a mere 14
runs was rewarded with the wicket of Earswick’s most prolific batsman
Andy James. Craig Stimpson and James Routledge failed to halt the fall
of wickets, both bowled by Fossy, as the opposition slumped to 43 for
5. Smallwood gained some reward until Blaster’s safe hands saw him
dismissed off Sam Medley’s spin for 33. Smith held the tail together
with 22 but Mike Davies came to the party with 3 for 14 to call any
early halt to proceedings as Earswick were all back in the hutch for
113, Blaster taking his tally of victims for the season to 23 with 2
catches and a stumping. Rich Foster’s 4 scalps saw him take the honours
for leading wicket taker with 37 followed by Mark Tissiman with 29, Sam
Medley 27 and Mike Davies 26.
Park’s openers Big Bird and Sam Medley produced a solid opening
partnership of 36 before the latter was caught for 26 which contributed
to a healthy season’s aggregate of 432 runs. Charlie Rook didn’t add
significantly to his overall tally but he topped the runs column with
445 over the campaign. Big Bird added another 20 to his name and Sam
Dodd chipped away for 18. The mid season capture of Neil Stephenson has
certainly been a feature of the Park’s success as he produced another
red inker, undefeated on 31 along with Mike Davies (15 n o) as the Park
surpassed the required total inside 31 overs, resulting in an early
start to deserved celebrations!
An
excellent season for Charlie Rook and the other 17 players who have
represented the 1st XI, achieving well beyond expectations
back in April. A big thank you also to the Park’s dedicated team of
groundstaff, the scorers, tea ladies, sponsors Britcom International Ltd
any many others too numerous to mention who have contributed to the most
successful campaign for many years which will be celebrated at the
annual presentation and dinner in the pavilion on Saturday. Bring on
Division 1!
