Match Report

At the half way stage of the season Britcom sponsored Londesborough Park’s 1st XI sit proudly on top of Division 2 after another maximum points haul against last week’s opponents Osbaldwick.

It was business as usual at the helm and Charlie Rook’s coin spinning technique once again paid dividends as he chose to field.  Visiting openers Child and Hattee initially coped well against Rich Foster and Mark Tissiman, posting 43 before Blaster held firm off a Tissiman delivery to make the breakthrough, Child departing for 31.  ‘Mr consistency’ Rich Foster produced another miserly spell, enhanced by two wickets, which was followed once again by the Yogi Youngman show.  The visitors had no answer to his banana balls as his 10 over spell produced prolific figures of 5-32.  Mike Davies helped mop up the tail with 2-15 and Blaster’s growing reputation behind the sticks was further enhanced with a total of 4 victims to his name.  Osbaldwick were eventually dismissed for 125, a total the Park skipper conceded should have been 25 less if it hadn’t been for the appearance of the ‘butter finger’ brigade.

In reply the Park lost the services of Sam Medley who attempted to carve opening spinner Cox out of the ground and came second, departing for 5.  Big Bird Williamson and Charlie Rook took advantage of the disinterested opposition and coasted home inside 30 overs.  Big Bird finally converted one of his many decent starts into a score, finishing undefeated on 67 and Charlie secured his own red inker of 45.  A blooming good performance – thanks to ball sponsor Flowers by Sally May.

The Park has now faced all the opposition in Division 2 and can quite rightly claim to be one of the better outfits.  Provided that the team does not suffer too many harvest and holiday disruptions the second half of the season promises to be enjoyable, challenging and hopefully successful.

Osbaldwick 125 (A Child 31, M Dunne 27, P Youngman 5-32) Londesborough Park 126-1 (J Williamson 67 n o, C Rook 45 n o)
