A triumvirate of teams at the top of York Senior
League division 2 is starting to pull away from the rest of the pack
and, following their latest comfortable victory, Britcom sponsored
Londesborough Park are safely ensconced with the elite.
Last
Saturday’s visitors to the Park were Tadcaster Magnet who failed to brew
up any meaningful opposition and produced a batting display as flat as a
southern pint. Yet again skipper Charlie Rook had first pick of a pitch
affected by recent showers and duly inserted the visitors. Paceman Mike
Davies, filling the boots of Rich Foster who was wallowing somewhere in
a Turkish bath, created mayhem in the Magnet ranks, dismissing 3 of the
top 4 batsmen with just 6 on the board courtesy of catches by Messrs
Blaster, Croft and Rook. An interruption for rain reduced the contest
to 40 overs per side but the middle order clearly didn’t fancy the task
in front of them and continued to play extravagant shots when grit and
determination were clearly more appropriate. Sir Geoffery would not
have approved. Mark Tissiman stuck next and Davies took his personal
tally to 5 as Sam Dodd at deep gully provided a safe pair of hands to
dismiss Nos. 6 and 7 for a brace of duck eggs. Robby Sawyer’s
introduction to the attack offered nothing in the way of respite for the
beleaguered batters and No. 8 was duly despatched. Amongst all the
carnage opener Cattle steered himself to a decent score, despite playing
and missing on numerous occasions, but on 42 the Robster disturbed his
furniture and proceeded to put the visitors out of their misery by
cleaning up the tail. In doing so he added 4 victims to the 6
accumulated during the early season encounter at Queen’s Gardens and can
quite rightly claim the Magnets to be personal rabbits.
Set
a target of 70 the Park’s reply started in an inauspicious fashion as
Big Bird edged to the keeper for a rare blob. Sam Medley and Charlie
Rook nudged the score along watchfully as the drying track offered some
degree of assistance to the bowlers. Sam was next to depart for 14 and
the skipper followed soon after for the same score. However that was
the last success for the visitors as Neil Stephenson (23 n o) and Sam
Dodd (17 n o) eased the Park home to a seven wicket victory to maintain
3rd spot in the division.
This
Saturday is a rest day following the demise of Crayke. Some in the
Park’s ranks will be hoping for deluges in Beverley and York whilst them
there farmers will be hoping to be sat on their combine harvesters – you
can’t have everything boys. Thanks to last week’s match ball sponsor M
Appleyard.
