Match Report
On Saturday the Britcom sponsored Park played host to
Whitkirk who arrived with a more competitive line up than earlier in the
season which contributed to an excellent game of cricket. In front of a
healthy number of spectators the visitors made a steady start to their
innings with Simpson dominating proceedings. Mark Tissiman finally
found his line and length to dismiss both openers with 61 on the board.
Rich Foster plugged away manfully at one end whilst the introduction of
Sam Medley swung the contest in the Park’s favour as he took out the
middle order in a productive spell of 12 overs, returning figures of 5
for 35. No. 9 Danby offered late order resistance with an undefeated 30
before Ineson was run out, leaving the Park requiring 169 for victory.
Big
Bird yet again accumulated runs quickly but could not maintain the
momentum, loosing his wicket with 21 to his name. Sam Medley took
control in a third wicket partnership of 47 with skipper Charlie Rook
until the latter was bowled. With the score on 105 the Park lost the
services of both Medley (59) and Sam Dodd leaving Nelly Stephenson to
hold the innings together. Mike Davies’s stay at the crease was brief
and the visitors saw a glimmer of hope with the departure of Stephenson
for 38. The glimmer became a ray of light when Blaster dipped out with
23 still required. However ‘Pilot’ Nettleton and Tissiman held their
nerve and secured 5 runs from the last over to claim a 3 wicket victory,
thus setting up an intriguing Bank Holiday Monday contest with Beverley
Town with the players feeling in the same mood as the match ball sponsor
Fresh ‘n’ Fruity.
