The Pryers sponsored 2nd XI faced a
difficult challenge from Goole Town 2nd XI who, but for a 60
point deduction earlier in the season, would be top of the table prior
to the fixture.
The
Park was invited to bat first and lost the services of Michael Drewery
and Callum Robertson with just 20 on the board. However runs were
accumulated at a healthy rate as Tom Medley (17), Damian Sharp (30) and
skipper Ian Hodson (48) all made more than useful contributions. Steve
Dawson continued the good work with an excellent undefeated 56 and Eddie
Salmon chipped in towards the end of the innings with 14 as the Park
amassed a very commendable total of 215 for 8.
The
Goole reply was initially stifled by Dazzler Moody who was unlucky not
to gain any success from his 7 overs which conceded just 9 runs. Eddie
Salmon made the initial breakthrough bowling Holah for 25. The skipper
then turned to spin employing the youth of Tom Noble in tandem with the
not so young Steve Mudd. Goole had no answer to the spin twins as they
wreaked havoc. Tom’s 8 over spell produced 5 for 38 including a
hat-trick – not bad for an under 15 age group bowler - and Steve almost
equalled his young compatriot with 4 for 34. Both were well supported
by a disciplined fielding and catching display as the Park overcame one
of the strongest teams in the division by 98 runs, easily their best
performance of the season.
The
2nd XI has confirmed a top five place prior to this weekend’s
final fixture against Welton 2nd XI who currently lie 2nd,
just 26 points ahead of the Park. Thanks to match ball sponsor the Star
Inn, Sancton and to the opposition for supplying an umpire for a change!
