Ian Hodson’s 2nd XI made it a double over
the men from Carlton, recording a comfortable 9 wicket victory.
The
Park’s hard working ground staff ensured the ground was in tip top
condition despite difficult weather conditions leading up to the game as
10 men Carlton chose to bat first. Dazzler Moody struck with his first
delivery of the match and Dan ‘the man’ Howard took a return catch to
dismiss the other opener. Kliene held the innings together with 26
until youngster Greg Drewery repeated Dan’s feat with a caught and
bowled. Greg and fellow youngster Tom Noble both bowled tidily, the
latter claiming 2 wickets whilst Moody ended Gilbert’s lower order
resistance and Steve Mudd chipped in with a brace. After a painstaking
45 overs tea was taken with Carlton having mustered 111 for 8.
The
Park’s reply was a much more entertaining affair. Wayward bowling was
punished at every opportunity as Michael Drewery produced some fine
shots but rode his luck, surviving 3 dropped catches. Damian Sharp
accompanied him with 17 and Andy Copeland continued the good work with a
27 red inker. Drewery finished undefeated on 60 as victory was sealed
at 5.30 pm with 27 overs in hand.
Blakey Botting was yet again the sole umpire on show and the ball was
kindly sponsored by M W Windows. The Pryers sponsored 2nd XI
sit comfortable in 5th position of division 5a, just 49
points behind leaders Yapham, but have to sit out this weekend with no
fixture.
