The Pryers sponsored 2nd XI travelled to
Goole and were invited to bat on a green wicket (anybody seen the
lawnmower?) in cool and cloudy conditions – not an ideal start. West
soon had Michael Drewery and recent centurion Damian Sharp heading back
to the pavilion but skipper Ian Hodson (17) and Tom Medley (24) got the
scoreboard moving, the former protecting his wicket and the latter
producing the attacking flair. The departure of this pair and Steve
Dawson (16) created a middle order collapse until better application
from Dazzler Moody and Steve Mudd took the score into 3 figures. Sadly
Dazzler was run out for 22 which resulted in the Park committing the
cardinal sin of not batting out their overs, the innings ending in the
39th of 45.
The
Park’s defence of 126 started with openers Dazzler and Dan ‘the man’
Howard bowling well without luck. Dan made an early breakthrough but
the Goolies rode their luck and punished any wayward deliveries until
Dan’s excellent spell was rewarded with the wicket of Holah. Yogi
Youngman produced a miserly spell of 8 overs for 13 and claimed the
Park’s 3rd wicket but the opposition had all the time in the
world , which they took, to ease to their target.
Skipper Hodson will be looking for an improved commitment with the bat
against Whitkirk this week. Thanks to umpire Nigel ‘mystery tour’
Botting who stood at both ends (the Goole umpire probably hiding with
the mower!).
