The Park’s second string played host to local rivals Pocklington who
made a quick start with the bat before the Park’s attack settled
into its stride and stemmed the flow of runs. Dazzler Moody, James
Beevers, Yogi Youngman and Tom Medley all chipped in with wickets to
send the visitors’ top five back to the pavilion having accumulated
82. The bowlers continued to gain success, courtesy of some
excellent catching, but some late order lusty blows from John Henley
boosted Pock’s final total to 161 for 9, probably 30 more runs than
the Park would have liked to be chasing.
The Park’s reply mirrored that of their 1st XI
counterparts and never got out of first gear against the accuracy of
Ted Donkin and James Saltmer. 5 down with only 32 on the board did
not look promising but a sixth wicket partnership of 30 between
James Beevers and Skipper Ian Hodson breathed a little life into
proceedings. Unfortunately poor shot selection and lack of
application proved to be the Park’s downfall, not aided by two run
outs. It was left to Yogi Youngman to gain a little pride with 25
not out but he eventually ran out of partners with the scoreboard
showing a disappointing 103.
Skipper Hodson will be looking for a much improved performance with
the willow against this week’s opponents Carlton Towers II. Thanks
to this week’s ball sponsor The Red Lion.
