Match Report

Londesborough Park’s 2nd XI signed off the season with another impressive performance

against Welton & Brough’s second string.  Invited to bat on a well prepared strip Park openers Michael Drewery and Callum Robertson laid a solid foundation with a partnership of 51.  Following the dismissals of Robertson and Eddie Salmon, Tom Medley and Drewery continued to prosper.  When Medley was adjudged LBW for 27 skipper Hodson came to the party with Drewery who was closing in on a well deserved century until former Park player Shaun Wilson cut short the celebrations, Drewery’s dismissal for 95 being the second occasion this season he has just failed to clock the big one. Hodson contributed 28, Steve Dawson produced another useful knock with 49 not out  and even Dazzler Moody wielded the willow for an undefeated 18 to allow the Pryers sponsored Park to post a challenging 244-5.

The Park’s tea adjudicators had the Welton effort well down the rankings but lack of quality sustenance failed to deter the performance in the field.  James Beevers struck the first blow dismissing Dave Fairbank.  Beaton and Price provided strong resistance until Tom Noble bowled the former around his legs, much to the batsman’s disbelief, but further wickets eluded the Park until a run out effected by Steve Dawson suddenly opened the floodgates.  Steve Mudd and James Beevers weaved their magic with the ball, supported by excellent fielding and catching by their team mates, as Welton lost 7 wickets for 27 runs.  Unfortunately victory was not to be as the home side’s last pair hung on for the draw.

An encouraging end to a good season for which skipper Ian Hodson would like to thank all players, scorers, umpires, tea ladies, supporters and sponsors.

Londesborough Park 2nd XI 244-6 (M Drewery 95, S Dawson 49 n o, I Hodson 28, T Medley 27) Welton & Brough 2nd XI 156-9 (B Price 74, J Beaton 40, S Mudd 4-18, J Beevers 3-30)

On Sunday 6th September the Park’s under 11s take on York in the League play-off final in the morning followed by the Intermediate League final between Fenner and Woodhouse Grange at 1.30 pm. Both fixtures will be held at Londesborough Park – all welcome.
