The
Pryers sponsored 2nd XI played hosts to Whitkirk’s second
string who eventually arrived late with 10 men and no umpire (at least
they showed up, unlike some previous occasions!). Skipper Ian Hodson
permitted the visitors to toss up and subsequently lost it so took to
the crease with Damian Sharp. Unfortunately their stay was brief and
Tom Medley followed soon after. Cometh the hour cometh the youngsters
and a superb 4th wicket partnership of 77 between Steve
Dawson and James Beevers had the Park back in the ascendancy. Dawson’s
fine innings was finally curtailed for 59 but Dan ‘the man’ Howard
offered solid support to Beevers, taking the score to 157 before both
fell for 20 and 40 respectively. The remainder of the innings was held
together by Dazzler Moody with an excellent 35 as another splendid tea
was taken with the board showing a first innings total of 215.
Moody and Howard turned their attention to their bowling skills and kept
the visitors in check, forcing numerous near misses and catching
opportunities which went begging. The introduction of Tom Eagling and
Steve Mudd had the wickets board moving as Tom’s 7 overs returned 3 for
14 and Steve took 2 for 28. However an outside chance of victory was
stifled by youngster Brown who batted well for his 20 not out to steer
the visitors to safety.
An
improved performance by the Park who offer thanks to match ball sponsor
A E Purdy Ltd and to umpire Phil High who stood at both ends amidst some
unnecessary verbals.
