Match Report

The Pryers sponsored 2nd XI headed west to Whitkirk with a batting line up bolstered by the presence of ‘pilot’ Nettleton and Ben Lewis.  A soft and spongy track greeted skipper Ian Hodson at the toss which he was delighted to win and present his bowling strike force of Dan ‘the man’ Howard and Dazzler Moody with the opportunity to apply early pressure on the opposition.  This they did in spades, claiming 3 wickets for just 1 run!  The Whitkirk middle order offered more meaningful resistance but Dave Matthews’ desire to run out his team mates did little to help their cause.  Wickets fell at regular intervals with Ben Lewis almost claiming a hat-trick.  Howard finally put the opposition out of their misery, dismissed for 98, the wickets being shared by Dan (3-20), Dazzler (2-17), Ben (2-2) and Steve Mudd (1-38).

With the track now drier and an excellent tea inside them, the Park’s batsmen set about their target with confidence.  Two ‘duck eggs’ in the scorebook against Hodson and Tom Medley were hardly what the doctor had ordered but the ‘pilot’ and Lewis used all their experience to ease the Park towards victory.  With the scores level the ‘pilot’, with encouragement from the man at short leg, went for glory with an attempted reverse sweep.  No prizes for guessing the outcome – bowled for 38!  Steve Dawson then applied a more conventional shot and the players adjourned for a well earned pint with man of the match Lewis undefeated on 59.

Whitkirk II 98 (D Matthews 33, D Howard 3-20) Londesborough Park II  99-3 (B Lewis 59 n o, T Nettleton 38)
