The Pryers Sponsored 2nd XI entertained Yapham at a
resplendent looking Park. Skipper Ian Hodson, with a strong batting
line up at his disposal, chose to take first knock. The visitor’s
opening attack of John Flint and Martin Pearson bowled with discipline
unlike the batting produced by the Park’s top order as 3 wickets fell
for 32 runs. Hodson and the returning Callum Robertson produced a mini
revival but the innings never gained momentum as poor shot selection yet
again accounted for too many batsmen. Steve Dawson continued his steady
form with 25 and Rob Sawyer added an undefeated 15 towards the end of
the innings but 152 all out was well below par on a 200+ track.
Quick wickets were the
order of the day after tea but, despite solid spells from Dazzler Moody
and Sawyer, their efforts went unrewarded as Ricky Woodmansey and the
experienced Geoff Room set the perfect example of how to build an
innings. Hodson utilized every bowler available but no change of pace
or deviation seriously looked like making the breakthrough and the
openers eased their side comfortably to victory.
Another inconsistent
display from the Park, especially with the willow. One thing they are
good at is providing an umpire and scorer. The opposition provided
neither and it is high time the League took action. Thanks to ‘Mystery
Trips’ Botting for standing at both ends and match ball sponsor
