Match Report

A tale of woe last weekend as both senior sides fell to defeat against lowly opposition.

The 1st XI made their debut at Ripon who had previously failed to register a victory this season.  The toss favoured the opposition who naturally inserted the Park.  Runs were difficult to come by in the early stages on a damp track and Sam Medley departed in the 11th over with the score on 35.  Skipper Charlie Rook joined Callum Robertson and aided a 2nd wicket partnership of 83 before being trapped LBW for 27 in the 34th over.  With the game reduced to 45 overs the Park looked to up the run rate but lost the services of Neil Stephenson and Mark Tissiman.  Callum finally departed the middle, run out for a fine 83 and a flurry from Tom Medley (14 no) produced a competitive total of 191-5 including 28 extras .

An early success for the Park, Leeming being run out for 1, put them on the front foot with no indications of what was to follow.  Opposition batsmen have developed a nasty habit of scoring centuries against the Park of late and so it proved once again as skipper Paul Nel decided to secure his first league ton.  He and Banks added 115 for the second wicket, the latter finally succumbing to Rook's spin for 40.  The same bowler trapped Morton LBW for 14 and gained a third victim when Blaster's stumped Nel for 108 but it came too late to prevent the hosts celebrating their first victory in the 38th over.

Clifton Alliance's fixture fell to the weather so the Britcom sponsored Park are still in touch with their York rivals but need to regroup fast if they are to maintain division 1 status, starting with a home tie against Hornsea this Saturday.  Last week's match ball was kindly sponsored by Wicstun Vets.

Londesborough Park 191-5 (C Robertson 83, C Rook 27) Ripon 192-4 (P Nel 108, A Banks 40, C Rook 3-52)
