Dukes Park, Bridlington was the venue for Britcom
sponsored Londesborough Park's latest Division 1 encounter which
resulted in an entertaining game but not the desired result.
Skipper Charlie Rook called incorrectly for once and made for the sheds
to don his pads with the other top order batsmen. Callum Robertson's
consistency in the 2nd XI was rewarded with a call up to
partner Big Bird. On a bouncy track offering the bowlers some
assistance Callum was first to fall to former Park player Will Hall's
pace. A 2nd wicket partnership of 59 between Big Bird and
the skipper swung the early honours in the Park's favour but, with Rook
starting to build a useful innings, that man Hall intervened, bowling
him for 30. As sure as eggs is eggs the next wicket fell quickly after,
Big Bird bowled by Rudd for 33. Two key batsmen in Neil Stephenson and
Mark Tissiman both departed cheaply with the score on 82 to put the
seasiders in control. However Ian Hodson and Tom Medley shared in a 6th
wicket stand of 57 to redress the balance a little before Hodson was
bowled for 30. Medley soldiered on with a string of partners who were
unable to offer lasting support before he became the final batsman to
succumb in the 45th over for a valiant 36 leaving the Park on
166, somewhat short of a match winning total. Chief destroyers for the
bucket and spade men were Casey Rudd with 5-27 and Will Hall 4-60.
All
rounder Rudd's day with the ball proved significantly better than with
the willow as Tom Eagling had him heading for the showers with just 6 to
his name. Skipper Garton was pouched by Neil Stephenson with only 35 on
the board before Tennant took control and, with the help of Cooper and
Lount, looked to have virtually sealed victory for his teammates.
However the seasiders lost 2 wickets with the score on 159 and 3 runs
later Tennant was finally caught behind by Blaster for 59.
Unfortunately it was too little too late for the Park who produced one
of their best bowling and fielding displays of the season but couldn't
match it with the bat and returned home unrewarded. Tom Eagling's spell
of 3-31 from 11.1 overs was the highlight of the bowling statistics.
A
disappointing result, tempered somewhat by the fish and chips at
Wetwang. Maybe a pre-match curry this Saturday courtesy of last week's
match ball sponsor Bengal Brasserie might spur the boys on as they face
a crucial fixture at home to Driffield 2nds.
