Londesborough Park's 1st XI produced a
sterling effort last Saturday when past rivalries were rekindled against
Clifton Alliance 2nd XI.
Probably expecting a comfortable afternoon, the home side inserted the
Park but hadn't accounted for a brace of top knocks from openers Big
Bird and 'form' batsman Callum Robertson. They saw off 4 bowlers before
John Myers had Big Bird caught for 60 with the score healthily placed on
107. Myers followed up by bowling Charlie Rook for a dozen but Callum
and Neil Stephenson maintained the visitors' momentum until Callum was
stumped for 66. Stephenson went on to make 47 and double figure
contributions from Ian Hodson, Mark Tissiman and James Beevers ensured
the Park posted their highest score of the season, finishing on 263-7.
After the tea interval hostilities continued to favour the Park as Rich
Foster, Mark Tissiman and a run out combined to reduce the Alliance to
34-4. Clifton's batsmen regrouped and added 40 for the 5th
wicket before Tissiman intervened again leaving the home side still
requiring 190 with 5 men back in the hutch. A partnership of 90 between
Parkinson and Weaver threatened to sway the balance but skipper Rook's
bowling and Tom Eagling's mitts had the former heading for the sheds
with 70 to his name. Thornton was then bowled by the skipper but, yet
again, that was as good as it got for the Park as Weaver (74 no) and No.
9 Stevens (43 no) spoiled the day and steered Clifton home with 8
deliveries to spare.
A
highly competitive encounter and much improved display by the Britcom
sponsored Park who entertain Hull Zing Zingari in this Saturday's final
match of the season. Holmemade Bakery kindly sponsored last week's
match ball.
