Folkton and Flixton was latest side to enjoy the
resplendent surroundings of Londesborough Park last weekend, providing
another test for the Britcom boys who once again competed well at
various stages of the game but just lacked penetration with the ball and
more than one significant run scorer with the bat.
Charlie Rook took over the big glove job from the absent Blaster and
lead his team onto the field, entrusting Tom Eagling and Dazzler Moody
with the bowling duties. A wicket in Dazzler's first over provided the
ideal start resulting in father and son combo Ben and Neil Elvidge at
the crease. Just as both were beginning to hit their straps Tom
interrupted their partnership and sent both packing, leaving the
visitors on 61-3. As in previous weeks the Park couldn't break a
significant middle order partnership as one or two chances went
begging. Malthouse and Stephenson enjoyed a 4th wicket stand
of 127 before Tom claim his 3rd scalp courtesy of the
skipper's prowess behind the sticks, ending Stephenson's knock on 70.
Mark Tissiman prevented Malthouse reaching his 50 and opposing skipper
Lacey was run out for 15 but a handy unbeaten 32 from Stocks ensured the
visitors took to the tea table with a healthy 249-6.
Michael Drewery was enlisted to fill Big Bird's boots but was trapped
LBW early in his innings. Charlie Rook (18) and Callum Robertson both
departed before the experienced pairing of Neil Stephenson and Ian
Hodson eased the score along to 82 at which point the latter was bowled
for 16. Tom Medley's occupation at the crease was brief, falling to the
bowler with the traditional North Yorkshire name, Nick Zakrzewski.
Tissiman became Neil's 4th partner and assisted in the Park's
best partnership of the day, posting 43 for the 6th wicket
before Zak struck again, dismissing Tissy for 19. Stephenson's sterling
efforts to keep the Park in the contest were rewarded with 60 to his
name but he couldn't quite secure a red inker, departing in the
penultimate over and, despite losing Dan Howard in the set of six, Tom
Eagling and James Beevers ensured no victory was gifted to the
opposition for the second week running.
Last
week's match ball was kindly sponsored by The Paper Shop. The Park have
a consecutive home fixture this Saturday when they play host to 4th
placed Heworth, hoping to pull away from the lower reaches of the table.
