Last Saturday saw Britcom sponsored Londesborough
Park's 1st XI pit their wits against visitors Hornsea, hoping
to repeat their victory against the seasiders earlier in May.
Opposing skipper Paul Johnson offered the Park first opportunity to post
a score. Big Bird and the ever improving Callum Robertson found runs at
a premium against disciplined bowling from Medforth and Kirk. However
both kept their wickets in tact and shared a century stand prior to Big
Bird's dismissal for 46. Charlie Rook and Callum nudged to score to 119
at which point Butterworth stuck again, Callum departing for 58.
Momentum was now the key with a target of a run a ball but the
introduction of Knapton to the attack put paid to the middle order
following the run out of Rook for 23. Mark Tissiman and Tom Eagling
both hit double figures but the final tally of 179-9 was, once again, 20
or so runs shy of a potential match winning score.
The
Hornsea openers started like a train – well for 15 balls they did – then
Tissiman lured danger man Paul Clappison and Blaster did the rest.
Johnson came in and smacked boundaries for fun as non striker Wallis
looked on before being bowled by Tissy in the 10th over for
7. Johnson rattled up 12 boundaries in a quickfire 61 but Dazzler's
second delivery of his spell brought the carnage to an end. Medforth
and Fox were a little more subdued, advancing to 127 when the
introduction of Rich Foster began to even out the contest. Fox went for
23 followed by Prescott and Hatto. However Medforth stood tall and,
despite a fourth wicket for Fossy, the visitors eased home with 3 overs
to spare, aided by 21 extras, Medforth finishing off in style with a 6.
The
fight for survival goes on with the small matter of a trip to York this
weekend. Still, if Blackpool can do it? Thanks to last week's match
ball sponsor A E Purdy Ltd.
