Britcom sponsored Londesborough Park's first team
took in the picturesque surroundings of Chanterlands Avenue, Hull last
weekend against Hull 'Zing' Zingari whom Ladbrokes had as clear
pre-match favourites, being as they sat on top of Division 1 by a
comfortable margin.
On a
newly laid square Charlie Rook took no chances and decided to field,
hoping to defend what the home side could muster and ....who knows what
else? Openers Storey and Biggs made good progress before Dazzler Moody,
who only conceded 25 in his 8 overs, bowled the latter with the score on
52. Rich Foster bowled as economically as ever and ended Storey's
chapter for 44. Skipper Rook's name was next to feature in the wickets,
bowling Hamson for 32 and dismissing Knowles for 19. Dangerman Alistair
Markham passed the 50 mark and was looking to plunder more in the last 6
overs of the innings until Tissy intervened with a return catch via the
arm (subsequently to become a very painful arm) of the non striker and
he departed for 67. Runs continued to flow but the Park gained an
additional bowling point when Blaster held a catch in Tissy's last
over. A run out in the final over saw the Zing Zing innings close on
249-7. A lightening fast and uneven outfield didn't assist the Park's
cause but a little more 'body on the line' may have reduced the final
tally.
Pilot Nettleton, timely deputizing for sun seeking Big Bird, and Sam
Dodd opened the innings in reply and conjured up an ideal platform with
79. Following the Pilot's departure for 31 Sam brought his undoubted
talents to the table with the skipper in a productive partnership. The
proceedings were then brought to an unscheduled halt as umpire Jeremy
Worley was taken ill and transferred to hospital. Following the break
Sam continued the good work before running out of steam in the sultry
conditions and returned to the hutch with 80 to his name. Neil
Stephenson and Ian Hodson couldn't make the same impression as in recent
weeks but the skipper stayed firm and found an ally in Tissy, the pair
edging the Park closer to the target. Tissy (19) became Burnham's 3rd
victim and James Beevers holed out for 2. 'Man for the occasion'
Blaster strode out, discussed tactics with the skipper, instantly forgot
them, faced the first ball of the last over, charged down the wicket,
heshed, missed and was bowled! 5 balls remaining, skipper at the non
striker's end with 85 and 7 needed for victory. Tom Eagling coolly
works a 2, cracks a boundary and fashions a single to earn the Park a
famous 3 wicket victory.
An
extremely pleasing outcome which leaves the Park 8th in the
Division but only 23 points shy of 4th. The match ball was
kindly sponsored by The Griffin and umpire Worley is on the road to
recovery. This weekend sees the completion of the first round of
matches as the Park host Clifton Alliance 2nd XI in what promises to be
another interesting encounter.
