It was all about pride in the bank holiday Monday
fixture at Pickering and skipper Charlie Rook decided to bat first and
attempt to set a more imposing target than against Sheriff Hutton
Bridge. As for Big Bird's contribution see above! Callum Robertson's
recent good run came to an end in the second over leaving the Park a tad
struggling on 0 for 2. However Charlie and Neil Stephenson lifted the
gloom with a 3rd wicket stand of 105, curtailed when the
skipper was run out for 64. The Pikes then seized the initiative,
claiming 3 wickets with the score on 125 including Stephenson for 45.
The Park rallied again courtesy of James Beevers (18) and Tom Eagling
(29) and headed for the tea tent with a respectable 184 to defend.
Unfortunately the second half of the contest very much mirrored
Saturday's game as, despite the majority of bowlers conceding 4 or less
runs per over with the Post Office sponsored ball, the batting prowess
of Chris Nichols and Mark Shepherd held sway, the latter topping off a
fine allround performance with 94 not out as the Pikes secured a 10
wicket success.
