Londesborough Park needed to secure victory at home
to Sheriff Hutton Bridge to keep alive their hopes of division 1 status
last Saturday. Following a delayed start due to rain their cause was
not helped by the dismissal of Big Bird in the first over of the match
and the situation progressively worsened throughout the innings. Callum
Robertson once again chipped in with a score of 25 but the fact that
extras were next in the pecking order tells its own story. The Park
batsmen had no answer to Jordan Grose who claimed 5-30 and the most
productive partnership of the day came from the 10th wicket
pairing of Rich Foster and Dazzler Moody with 37. A final total of 122
was unlikely to present too many problems for the Bridge batsmen and so
it proved.
Opposing skipper Paul Oldfield and Mike Smith virtually sealed victory
with an opening partnership of 109 as the Park's attack bowled tidily
but failed to make a breakthrough. It was left to young spinner Greg
Drewery to finally light up the wickets display on the board, Ian Hodson
claiming the catch to end Smith's innings for 43. That was as good as
it got as the visitors eased past their target in the 32nd
over.
A
disappointing performance from the Britcom sponsored Park who have found
the second half of the season tough going and their cricket of late has
not matched last Saturday's match ball sponsor 'Fresh 'n' Fruity'.
