No
doubt the barbeques were being wheeled out and scrubbed down at
Hovingham (probably not the B&Q versions there) where the 2nd
XI paid a visit to the picturesque ground in front of the Worsley's
residence Hovingham Hall. Now there are one or two house rules
regarding the Hall - crossing in front of it during the match is a no
no and poking your nose up to a window to see what's for supper is
absolutely taboo; well for everyone except Dick Salmon that is!
Onto
the cricket and skipper Crofty had similar sun bathing desires as his 1st
XI counterpart and took the decision to field. An opening partnership
of 31 belied the carnage to follow when Dazzler Moody dismissed Skelton
for 13. He then proceeded to rip out the top order and season debutant
Yogi Youngman bamboozled the lower order as they took 5 and 4 wickets
respectively. The other successful bowler was 14 year old Greg Drewery
who bowled dangerous opener Redhead for 19. Only a belligerent,
unbeaten 23 from captain Chilton at the end of the innings gave the
scoreline an air of respectability as the innings closed on 107.
The
Park's reply raced to 67 in 11 overs with a flurry of boundaries from
Croft before he departed for 47. The youth of Michael Drewery (25 no)
and Steve Dawson (26 no) then took control and comfortably saw the
Pryers sponsored Park home without alarm to a 9 wicket victory inside 16
overs.
The
match ball was kindly sponsored by Oaklea Nurseries and, as with the 1st
XI, thanks go to previous match ball sponsors Highgate Dental Nursery,
Rockcurl, Laverack Butchers and The Red Lion.
This
weekend's home fixture sees Civil Service visit the Park – hope their
jobs are safe!
Hovingham 2nd XI 107 (D Moody 5 – 24, P Youngman 4 – 26)
Londesborough Park 2nd XI 108 – 1 (J Croft 47, S Dawson 26
no, M Drewery 25 no)
The
club's junior section, kindly sponsored by The Star Inn, Sancton, has
made a good start to the season. The U13s commenced with a 21 run
victory against Dunnington as James Hanley and Will Stephenson starred
with bat and ball, well supported by all their teammates. This was
followed by victory against Beeford. Ben Shingles made an impressive 33
in the Park's total of 117 – 5 and an excellent performance in the field
saw the opposition restricted to 33. Toby Stephenson made a flying
start to his U13s career with 3 wickets and was well supported by all
who participated.
On the
social front the annual Hog Roast will be held on Sunday 20th
June. Contact George Drewery (01430 873877) or Blaster Barlow (01430
874104) for tickets. Keep up to date with all the Park's news by
