Match Report
Pocklington was the venue for the Pryers sponsored 2nd
XI and the Geoff Woodward show, the allrounder having a fine day with
both bat and ball.
The
Park's batsmen took first knock in glorious sunshine and openers Michael
Drewery and captain Jonathan Croft rattled up a 50 partnership in quick
time before the skipper holed out for 17 off Woodward's bowling. Steve
Dawson chipped in with 10 but his departure caused a mini collapse as
Woodward, brought on to slow down the run rate, had Callum Robertson
and Tom Medley caught behind in quick succession. Brothers in arms
Michael and Greg Drewery added 24 before Woodward dismissed Greg and
followed up with the prized wicket of Michael for an excellent knock of
78. The third Drewery, George of the 'flashing blade' notoriety, failed
to halt Woodward's dominance but youngster Eddie Salmon and Robbie
Sawyer with 25 apiece bolstered the total. A late flurry from Yogi
Youngman (20) and Steve Mudd (13 no) saw the innings to a more than
respectable total of 203 but the Park committed the cardinal sin of
failing to bat out the overs, allowing Pocklington 51 to achieve their
target. Woodward's sterling effort in the heat was rewarded with 7-32
from 12 overs.
The
Park's defense started brightly as Greg Drewery sent back Attwood for 2
and Milner for 21. Stephenson and that man Woodward enjoyed a stand of
65 which was broken by Rob Sawyer, the former being caught by Salmon for
17. The hard hitting Woodward finally departed for 65, bowled by Tom
Medley, but Adam Thomas continued his good work together with Green and,
despite 2 wickets for evergreen Steve Mudd, Pocklington eased to victory
with 9 balls remaining.
A
strong performance with the bat by the 2nd XI but they need
to bat out the overs and take their catches in the field in order to
challenge for honours in Division 5. They will be looking for revenge
this week as Huntington, who were victorious in the first game of the
season, visit the Park.
