The 2nd XI played host to Hovingham 2nd
XI, the only side in the league which has not drawn a game all season.
George Drewery took the dual role of skipper and keeper and invited the
opposition to bat. The visitors made steady progress throughout their
innings, in particular opener Skelton who notched up 91, supported by
Prest with 35. Dan 'the man' Howard was the Park's most successful
bowler with 3-46 whilst Greg Drewery picked up two wickets and James
Beevers one in a tidy 7 over spell which yielded just 13 runs.
Hovingham's innings drew to a close on 183-6.
The
Park's reply suffered an early set back when Michael Drewery was caught
behind for 4. James Beevers and Tom Sowersby also departed courtesy of
the keeper's gloves before a useful partnership between Greg Drewery and
Liam Barlow put the Park back on track. Liam contributed 24 before
Greg and Steve Dawson took control, working the score to 147 before Greg
returned to the sheds with an excellent 66 to his name. Keeper Chilton
intervened once again to end Steve Dawson's innings of 26 and Dan Howard
immediately fell to another catch behind the stumps. Tom Noble provided
hope with 15 but three more Chilton catches (7 in total!) saw the tail
fail to wag and the Park all out just 14 runs short of victory with,
frustratingly, 5 overs in hand. Prest with 5-37 and Fox with 4-31 were
the main destroyers in tandem with Chilton's safe handling.
The
match ball was kindly sponsored by The Half Moon. This week's fixture
sees the seconds head into York to face Civil service.
