The 2nd XI hoped for 'third time lucky'
when they took on Division leaders Huntington at North Moor Playing
Field. Batting first Greg Drewery (12) and Callum Robertson (17) were
dismissed in identical fashion. Tom Williamson contributed 12 but Steve
Dawson departed cheaply and the skipper was run out for a duck as 3
wickets fell for just 2 runs leaving the Park precariously placed on
56-5. However Michael Drewery held the innings together, supported by
Eddie Salmon (13) and Dan 'the man' Howard with 33. George Drewery, not
to be outdone by his skipper, was also run out without scoring before
Michael's valiant effort was curtailed by Coyle for 52. The innings
concluded in the final over on 167, aided by 24 extras despite keen
fielding from the home side.
Greg
Drewery struck early in the Huntington reply but there was no way past
allrounder Shaw and Johnson who played a minor role in a 2nd
wicket partnership of 71. Robbie Sawyer made the breakthrough, bowling
Johnson for 13, and then proceeded to take out the middle order with
Steve Mudd, the latter contributing with a wicket and a run out to leave
the home side wobbling on 112-6. However Shaw proved to be a stubborn
obstacle to remove and No 8 Kale provided valuable, hard hitting support
as Huntington eased towards victory. Robertson and Greg Drewery
combined to dismiss Kale for 31 but it was too little too late as Shaw
remained undefeated on 98 and secured the win with 4 balls remaining.
For
the third time in 11 matches the Park ran the leaders close but yet
again just came out on the wrong side.
Londesborough Park 2nd XI 167 (M Drewery 52, D Howard 33, J
Cowell 3-24) Huntington 171-7 (T Shaw 98 no, S Kale 31, R Sawyer 3-30)
