In division 5A a top end of the table clash between 3rd
placed Pocklington and 4th placed Londesborough Park promised
to be a close encounter but resulted in anything but as the Park gained
a resounding victory against their local rivals who were missing several
key players.
The
visitors were invited to take first knock in glorious sunshine and were
soon on the back foot as Eddie Salmon trapped Croft LBW for a duck.
Saltmer made it to 7 before George Drewery's safe hands behind the
sticks rewarded Dan 'the man' Howard. Young spin twins Tom Noble and
Stephen Croft then took full control, supported by an excellent display
in the field, as no Pocklington batsman could muster beyond 15. Five
wickets for Tom and three for Stephen resulted in an early assault on an
splendid tea, the visitors having been shot out for 78.
Tim
Stephenson, making a rare and welcomed return to the fold, joined his
nephew Tom Noble at start of the Park's response but lack of match
practice did for Tim. James Saltmer took his second wicket to dismiss
Tom Williamson before Noble (34 no) and Liam Barlow (25) saw the Park to
the verge of victory. The bails were removed after one ball of the 19th
over and, with 30 points in the bag, the 2nd XI move to
within 3 points of the visitors and a chance of 3rd place in
the division with two fixtures remaining. Hagston Carpets were the kind
sponsors of the match ball.
Pocklington 2nd XI 78 (T Noble 5-18, S Croft 3-22)
Londesborough Park 2nd XI 79-3 (T Noble 34 no, L Barlow 25)
