The Park's 2nd XI entertained the
Castlemen from Sheriff Hutton in steamy hot conditions and were no doubt
pleased when the visiting skipper won his first toss in 9 attempts and
elected to field. The Park's top order found the going relatively tough
against the bowling of Bradley and the skipper. Only Greg Drewery with
29 and Steve Dawson with 14 made any impression as they slumped to 99
for 6. However a fine 7th wicket partnership of 86 between
Michael Drewery and Tom Williamson, fresh from his holiday, put the Park
back on course. When Michael departed for 74 his father George
supported Tom to ensure full use of the overs and an innings total of
220-7, Tom finishing undefeated on 47. Questions may be asked in the
Drewery household considering the match report on the York Senior
League's website suggests Michael made 74 but probably gained more
satisfaction from the 29 scored by his under 14 year old son! Skipper
Fawcett took the bowling honours for the visitors with 4-30.
The
Sheriff Hutton reply rarely got out of first gear as Greg Drewery,
Robbie Sawyer and Tom Medley chipped in with wickets at regular
intervals, supported by a run out engineered by Callum Robertson and
executed by George 'Keiswetter' Drewery. Steve Mudd added to his tally
with two late order victims as the opposition was rolled over for just
79, Robbie matching the Sheriff skipper's figures of 4-30.
Captain Croft was pleased with his troops' improved performance in the
field as the push towards a top 3 place in the Division continues,
hopefully starting with a victory over table toppers Huntington this
Saturday. Last week's match ball was kindly sponsored by The Paper
Shop.
