Match Report

Londesborough Park's 2nd XI paid a visit to the land of the castle to take on Sheriff Hutton 2nd XI in their penultimate game of the season.

Skipper Jonathan Croft invited the home side to bat on a dry, flat pitch and, despite  a controlled spell form Eddie Salmon bowling in tandem with Dan 'the man' Howard, the Sheriff openers enjoyed a productive partnership of 80 before Dan clean bowled Armitage for 27.  Fawcett took the score to 100 when Dan struck again as George 'Kieswetter' Drewery took the catch to dismiss Fawcett for 36.  Another 54 runs were added before the Park's young spin twins Stephen Croft and Tom Noble took control.  Intermittent showers reduced the innings to 42 overs and, as the home batsmen looked to accelerate, Stephen and Tom shared 3 wickets apiece to stem the Sheriff run chase as George claimed 2 stumpings and Park youngsters James Hanley, Liam Barlow and Eddie Salmon fizzed about in the field to great effect.  Sheriff's innings finally concluded on 189-8.

A classic Sheriff Hutton tea clearly had a negative effect on the Park's top order (too many pies?) as  opener Michael Bradley wreaked havoc taking 5-12 in 8 overs whilst Tony Fisher's 8 overs conceded just 7 runs as the Park slumped to 21-5.  Despite a patient 16 from Eddie Salmon wickets continued to tumble as his dismissal saw the visitors facing defeat on 84-8.  However Dan the man had other ideas and, finding an ally in Kieswetter Drewery, blasted the bowling to all corners of the ground striking 12 fours and 5 sixes.  The pair enjoyed an undefeated partnership of 99, George providing the anchor role with 23 not out.  Dan's tremendous knock of 108 not out was unfortunately not quite enough to secure an improbable victory as the Park fell 7 runs short.  No doubt the visitors were greatly relieved to secure a draw, particularly Bradley who claimed 6-20 whilst Sally Harrison earned credit with 2-32.

Panel umpire Derek Brockless produced a confident and considerate display on behalf of the Park who finish their 2010 season with a home fixture against Welton & Brough 2nd XI on Saturday.

Sheriff Hutton 2nd XI 189-8 N Fairweather 42, W Fawcett 36, J Armitage 27, Extra 43!, T Noble 3-27, S Croft 3-36) Londesborough Park 2nd XI 183-8 (D Howard 108 no, M Bradley 6-20)
