1st XI vs Pocklington

Back to Season 2011

The curtain came down on Londesborough Park 1st XI's season against local rivals Pocklington at Burnby Lane in what turned out to be an entertaining game with several results possible with just 2 overs of the contest remaining.

The Park's line up consisted of 1st team regulars, 2nd team drafts, out of retirements and one or two assessing the virtues of the golf course next season.  Skipper Charlie Rook was kind enough to allow the hosts first dip on a bowler friendly track.  Ian Camwell and Jamie Kember accumulated mid teens before Dazzler 'I don't drop catches' Moody and the 'Ginger One' triggered movement of the scoreboard's wicket display.  Tissiman then added Matthew Atkinson and Ian Jozefowicz to his season's tally of 37, leaving Pock stuttering on 64-4.  Neil Jackson (39) and Ed Gallagher made the most of some slippery fingers before Ian Hodson finally held on to one to dismiss Jackson.  Blaster 'no keepers' gloves required' Barlow provided Dazzler with his 3rd wicket and the skipper chipped in to end Gallagher's knock for 40, stumped by Greg Drewery  Greg Nesbitt contributed 33 before Stephenson's buckets sent him back to the sheds, keeper Drewery provided his 3rd assist to see off Parkinson and Dazzler ended his productive season with the ball with a fivefer as the hosts' innings closed on a more than competitive 174.

Neil Stephenson's repaired bat let him down again as Nesbitt returned the favour in the catching department in the 6th over.  Blaster provided sublime entertainment, occasionally middling one in his 20, Kember rattled Big Bird's castle with 14 to his name and the wicket contributed to the skipper's nominal contribution, leaving the Park's reply a little shaky at 58-4.  Michael Drewery and Ian Hodson then produced a competitive response, playing the bowling on its merits, before Hodson was about a week early on an attempted pull and departed for 27.  Steve Dawson's no nonsense approach didn't quite pay off so brothers Drewery took up the challenge.  They added 31 for the 7th wicket before Ian Camwell held a sharp catch at gully to send Greg packing for 10.  Brother Michael and 2nd team skipper Jonathan Croft (18) decided the win was still on and took the score to 160 before a faint edge to the keeper did for Croft.  The loss of Drewery for a fine 53 in the penultimate over, giving Joss Room his fivefer, raised Pock's hopes of victory and an outside chance of avoiding relegation but, in the descending gloom, Dazzler and the 'Ginger One' held firm, the Park closing on 160-9.

The Britcom sponsored 1st XI suffered a few jitters in the final weeks of the season but eventually secured a creditable 7th spot in division 2.  Thanks to the various scorers throughout the season, the team of tea providers who have produced excellent fair at the Park and all the match ball sponsors, the last being kindly provided by Rockcurl.  That, ladies and gentlemen, concludes the bull manure for this season!

Pocklington 1st XI 174 (E Gallagher 40, N Jackson 39, G Nesbitt 33, D Moody 5-89, M Tissiman 3-52) Londesborough Park 1st XI 160-9 (M Drewery 53, I Hodson 27, J Room 5-57, J Kember 3-59)
