The
Park's 2nd XI season goes from strength to strength after yet
another convincing victory at the seaside against Hornsea 2nd
XI.
Openers Tim Stephenson and Ben Lewis made a cautious start on a green
wicket, accumulating 34 without loss off 15 overs. An intake of liquid
did Tim no favours as he was dismissed shortly after drinks for 15.
Callum Robertson joined Ben who jointly put the bowling attack to the
sword in an excellent partnership of 132. Ben appeared on course for a
maiden century but agonizingly fell 5 runs short, courtesy of a well
taken catch by keeper Jordan. Fit again Dan 'the man' Howard was soon
in his stride whilst Callum's innings continued in fine style. A
further unbroken stand of 62 contributed to a teatime total of 239-2
with Callum undefeated on 93 and Dan securing a 26 red inker. Max Guest
was the only Hornsea bowler to disturb the wickets column with 2-56.
The
home side's reply was soon in a mess as Rob Sawyer set himself up for a
hat trick by removing Guest and Hatto with the score on 1. Jack
Sowersby made further inroads, aided by Tom Williamson's 7th
catch of the season and the safe hands of skipper Jonathan Croft.
Senior pro Sawyer, backed by a typical miserly spell from Paul 'Yogi'
Youngman, making a welcomed return to the fold, kept Hornsea's batters
on the back foot, reducing them to 45-9. A rearguard action from Frazer
and Wilson then frustrated the Red Lion sponsored Park as Croft rotated
his bowlers without success. After a painstaking period of 16 overs Dan
'the man' finally bowled Frazer with his second delivery to confirm an
emphatic 176 run victory, the Robster finishing with dominant figures of
6-32.
A
star performance, supported by match ball and Junior Section sponsor The
Star Inn, Sancton. This week's visitors Dringhouses will hopefully
arrive with trepidation.
