Londesborough Park's 2nd XI bandwagon rolls on with another
comfortable victory over New Earswick 2nd XI. Skipper
Jonathan Croft viewed the green tinge on the wicket as a prime bowling
option and inserted the visitors. Scoring was kept at a premium by Rob
Sawyer and Michael Drewery who both picked up early wickets as Earswick
crawled to 55-2 at the half way stage. The introduction of Ben Lewis
and Stephen Croft to the attack compounded the visitors' woes as they
worked their way through the middle order, aided by the run out of
Whitaker for 26. Only Menon (24) and Noble (13) offered any meaningful
resistance as Earswick capitulated to 89 all out in the 39th
over. Croft with 4-19 in 8 overs and Lewis with 2-18 in 7 overs ensured
their teammates could relax over another Michelin star tea.
Club
coaches Ben Lewis and Tim Stephenson replied for the Red Lion sponsored
Park and, after a watchful start, Lewis began to hit the straps whilst
Stephenson used all his experience to anchor the partnership. The
pairing took just 17.1 overs to overhaul the target, Lewis rounding off
a good day with an undefeated 65 and Stephenson a rock solid 19 not out.
The
successful match ball was generously sponsored by Beadle Motor Services
and the 2nd XI will be hoping to gear up and move their
season into overdrive this Saturday when the hit the seaside to face 3rd
placed Hornsea 2nd XI.
