Londesborough Park first XI travelled to Selby 1sts on
Saturday, with little prospect of a game of cricket due to the persistent
drizzle. The rain eventually stopped however, and the match commenced at 2pm in
a game reduced to 37 overs per side. Londesborough batted first and made hard
work of it initially, finding themselves on 25 for 3 after 8 overs. A stand of
115 for the fourth wicket however, between Tom Eagling (89) and Lucas
Stephenson (56), saw the match swing back in favour of Londesborough. The final
total reached a very competitive 186 for 10 on the last ball of the innings,
with Selby bowlers Luke Berzins and Alex Bowden securing 4 wickets each.
The Selby innings also suffered some early set-backs,
finding themselves 3 wickets down for only 29 runs, but a fourth wicket stand
of 69 brought them back into the contest. The subsequent batsmen also showed
intent to chase down the Londesborough total, with runs coming at a steady
rate. It took good catches by 7 different individuals to keep the scoring in
check, and the reintroduction of opening bowlers Joe Shingles and Ciaran Brooke
finally convinced Selby to settle for a losing draw. The pick of the
Londesborough bowlers were Joe Shingles (8-2-26-3), Ciaran Brooke (9-3-16-1)
and Tom Sowersby (9-2-27-2). Harper’s man of the match was awarded to Lucas
Stephenson.
LPCC: 186-10 (Tom Eagling 89, Lucas Stephenson 56, Luke
Berzins 4-37, Alex Bowden 4-39)
Selby: 157-7 (Alex Bowden 47, Joe Shingles 3-26)
Londesborough Park’s second team game at home against Selby
II on Saturday was unfortunately scuppered by the weather. Londesborough were
poised to secure another convincing victory having bowled Selby II out for 85,
but the heavens opened whilst tea was being taken and no further play was
possible. Darren Moody’s 5-18 off 9 overs secured the Harper’s man of the match
award.

The Wednesday night Foss Evening team travelled to Bolton Percy
for a top of the table clash this week. Londesborough batted first on a pitch
affected by the earlier rain. Openers Lucas Stephenson and James Beevers
frustrated the fielding side, hitting regular boundaries without giving chances,
and they reached a brilliant first wicket partnership of 130 before Beevers
fell for 55. Lucas Stephenson finished on 82*, with the scoreboard registering
an impressive 146-1 off 18 overs.
Bolton Percy looked able to meet the challenge set, but lost their first
wicket for 22, bowled by Michael Drewery (2-26). The home side continued to hit
boundaries and were up with the necessary scoring rate, until the introduction
of skipper Joel Taylor (3-22) slowed their progress. Bolton Percy ran out of
overs 16 runs short of the target on 130 for 8.
LPCC: 146-1 (L Stephenson 82*, J Beevers 55)
Bolton Percy: 130-8 (T Atkinson 32, I Holmes 42, J
Taylor 3-22, M Drewery 2-26)
