Londesborough Park’s first XI game fell victim to the weather on
Saturday, when Scarborough called the match off due to a waterlogged pitch. The
second XI fared much better, managing to complete their match at home versus
Woodhouse Grange IV despite the worrying forecast.
Londesborough batted first and at 4-2 the score looked as bleak as
the weather, but a magnificent third wicket partnership of 199 between Joel
Taylor (118) and Edward Smith (78) helped Londesborough Park to an impressive 243-7
at tea. U13 Holly Cooper (2-22) took the key wickets of Taylor and Smith.
Woodhouse Grange, including a high proportion of junior players, started
steadily and didn’t lose a wicket until the 14th over. The second
wicket came quickly in the next over but then the third wicket partnership prevailed
again, adding an important 96 runs to the score. Woodhouse continued to protect
their wickets and finished on 161-7, keeping Londesborough Park to a 26-point
winning draw rather than an outright win. Trevor Britain (80) and Freddy Bowers
(39) scored most of the runs, and Charles Rook (3-34) was the pick of the
Londesborough bowlers.
The man of the match award went to a well-deserving Joel Taylor
for his maiden century which included 15 boundaries and one ‘six’.
Londesborough: 243-7 (Joel Taylor 118, Edward Smith 78)
Woodhouse Grange: 161-7 (Trevor Britain 80, Freddy Bowers 39,
Charles Rook 3-34)
