Londesborough Park Cricket Club News story

Match Reports w/e 12th August

12 Aug 2018

Londesborough’s first XI entertained Selby 1sts on Saturday and invited the visitors to take first use of the batting strip. An all-round fielding performance ensued with five of the Park bowlers taking wickets, two well-timed run-outs from Joe Shingles and Martin Pearson, and wicket keeper Tom Jennings taking two catches and a stumping. Only Matt Hoyle (55) and Lee Wilde (71) managed to make major contributions in Selby’s score of 181-8.

Londesborough’s reply began well with yet another solid opening partnership between Tom Jennings (58) and James Beevers (32). Martin Pearson (25) added to the strong start and Tom Eagling (22*) and Michael Drewery (23*) continued the good work as the Selby target was comfortably reached with 5.2 overs to spare, securing another maximum haul of points for the Park.

Selby I: 181-8 (Matt Hoyle 55, Lee Wild 71)

Londesborough Park I: 182-4 (Tom Jennings 58, James Beevers 32, Martin Pearson 25, Tom Eagling 22*, Michael Drewery 23*)

The Deep Blue Fish & Chips Man of the Match award went to Tom Jennings for his excellent batting and wicket-keeping performance.

In the ‘reverse’ fixture Londesborough’s second XI travelled to face Selby 2nds. Invited to bat first, Londesborough made an excellent start with 92 being added for the first wicket stand between Joel Taylor (62) and John Coote (41). The departure of this pair precipitated a hiccup in the Londesborough innings which was repaired by ‘middle-order’ contributions from Phil Jennings (23*), Edward Smith (24) and Mark Tissiman (25) leading to a final total of 201-8.

Isaac Leung’s innings of 82* formed the cornerstone of the Selby reply and virtually all of his team mates made ‘double-figure’ starts but only Richard Mustill (24) managed to get into the 20’s. The outcome of the match was always in the balance as Selby managed to keep within sight of the Londesborough total. Darren Moody (3-46) was the pick of the Londesborough bowlers and Selby eventually ran out of overs 7 runs short of victory. An excellent game of cricket and a fully deserved winning draw for Londesborough’s second string.

Londesborough Park II: 201-8 (Joel Taylor 62, John Coote 41, Chris Warner 3-33, Luke Berzins 3-25)

Selby II: 194-7 (Isaac Leung 82*, Darren Moody 3-46)

Mark Tissiman was the recipient of Deep Blue Fish & Chips Man of the Match award for a good all-round performance with bat and ball and for taking an outstanding catch.
