Londesborough Park Cricket Club News story

Match Reports w/e 26th August

27 Aug 2018

Londesborough Park first team travelled to Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Stamford lost the toss and were invited to bat first, their top order struggling to make inroads against the tight Londesborough bowling attack. Joe Shingles (12-5-18-3) removed the two opening batsmen, conceding only 18 runs from his 12 over spell. The other Park bowlers were equally successful with Ciaran Brooke (11-4-35-2), Martin Pearson (10-1-36-2) and James Beevers (9.3-1-38-3) picking off the rest of the batsmen. Only Paul Milner (65*) and batsman number 11 Paul Watmore (20) offered any resistance as Stamford Bridge were bowled out for 129 in the 43rd over.

The Park reply didn’t start they way they would have hoped, and they found themselves on 18-2. Martin Pearson came in at number 4 though and continued his recent good form with the bat, top- scoring with an entertaining 63, including 8 fours and a six. The Park eventually crossed the winning line in the 39th over, securing the maximum 30 points.

Stamford Bridge: 129-10 (Paul Milner 65*, Stuart Watmore 20, Joe Shingles 3-18, Ciaran Brooke 2-35, Martin Pearson 2-36, James Beevers 3-38)

Londesborough Park I: 130-7 (Martin Pearson 63, Joe Shingles 12*, Andrew Healey 2-23, Stuart Watmore 2-19)

The Deep Blue Fish & Chips Man of the Match award went to Martin Pearson.

Londesborough Park seconds finished their season off with a home clash against division leaders Carlton Towers. Carlton batted first and didn’t find too much difficulty keeping the scoreboard ticking over. Joel Taylor took 3 wickets, but Marcus Thandi (70), Darren Graves (62*), James Stephenson (48) and Scott Woffenden (26) were the main contributors towards their final score of 247-5.

The second XI started promisingly despite the loss of an early wicket, and on 108-3 the prospect of preventing Carlton from taking maximum points looked like a possibility. Unfortunately, the last seven batsmen could offer little resistance to the Carlton attack. They managed to add only 22 runs between them, despite Henry Smith’s lofty six over the old piggery, and the Park were bowled out for 133. James Stephenson (3-38) and James Knibb (3-49) were the pick of the Carlton bowlers. Whilst a disappointing result for the last match the second XI have had a very successful season, finishing third in the division and setting up a great platform for next season’s challenge for promotion.

Carlton Towers: 247-5 (Scott Woffenden 26, Marcus Thandi 70, Darren Graves 62*, James Knibb 24, James Stephenson 48, Joel Taylor 3-72)

Londesborough Park: 133-10 (Joel Taylor 30, Simon Dodd 39, Edward Smith 22, James Stephenson 3-38, James Knibb 3-49, Marcus Atkinson 4-22)

Simon Dodd was awarded the Deep Blue Fish & Chips Man of the Match award.
