York III were the visitors to Londesborough on Saturday to face
the Park’s first team, and after winning the toss invited the home team to bat
first.
Londesborough got off to a steady start, despite the early loss of
Tom Jennings. James Hanley and Martin Pearson took the scoreboard to 50 in the
13th over before James was caught on 26. Tom Eagling joined Martin
at the crease and they continued to build the score, adding another 71 runs before
Martin was dismissed just 7 short of what would have been his third consecutive
50. Tom Eagling was out shortly afterwards but not before securing his half
century. A mid-innings blip saw the Park reduced from 122-2 to 135-6, but
Charles Rook (46*) steadied the ship and supported by Scott Hardwick (14) took
the score to a respectable 200-7 with a seventh wicket partnership of 63.
The York innings couldn’t have started any better for
Londesborough as they took two very early wickets, reducing the visitors to
0-2. A third wicket partnership of 75 between Tom Nicholson (47) and Kallum
Ahmed (21) gave the visitors hope however. An excellent bowling performance by
all of the Londesborough attack, but particularly Charles Rook who took 4
wickets whilst giving away only 15 runs from his 12 overs, and Scott Hardwick
who also took 3 wickets for 24. The Park couldn’t quite secure all ten wickets
however as York clung on for 155-9 and Londesborough settled for a high scoring
winning draw, consolidating their third place in the league.
