Londesborough Park Cricket Club News story

Match Reports week ending 17th June

18 Jun 2018

Londesborough Park first XI travelled to Bridlington on Saturday and chose to bat first. Unfortunately, the tactic didn’t pay off and the Park struggled against the Bridlington bowling, stalling on 95 all out. John Major (6-7) and Ryan Boyes (3-25) dominated proceedings, and only Tom Jennings (32) made a significant score.

The result was never really in doubt, and Bridlington reached the required target in just 18.2 overs, Casey Rudd (34) and Luke Dixon (48) providing most of the runs.

LPCC: 95-10 (T Jennings 32, J Major 6-7, R Boyes 3-25)

Bridlington: 99-2 (C Rudd 34, L Dixon 48)

Londesborough Park’s second team entertained Heworth IV at the Park and were invited to bat first. Heworth’s opening bowler, Stuart Ross (2-52), made quick inroads into the Park upper order and the home team found themselves 11-2 in the third over. Ian Hodson (124*) and Simon Dodd (53) restored the equilibrium quickly however and put on 105 for the third wicket. Matt Ware (20) and Joel Taylor (15) supported Ian after Simon’s dismissal, and the Park amassed an impressive 246. Heworth’s Adam Livingston deserves a mention for taking two excellent one-handed catches, which brought appreciation from all watching.

Heworth had a big hill to climb, and although behind the run rate from the start they had started to pick up the pace when the weather intervened. Much to Londesborough’s frustration, who were on track for another good points haul, the match was abandoned in the 24th over when Heworth were 82-3. Phil Holland top scored for Heworth with 42*, and Joel Taylor secured 2-18 from his 7 overs.

The Harper’s man of the match award went to Ian Hodson.

LPCC: 246-6 (I Hodson 124*, Simon Dodd 53)

Heworth IV: 82-3 (P Holland 42*, J Taylor 2-18))

Londesborough park would like to thank their team sponsors Britcom International and the Red Lion, and this week’s ball sponsors Hagston Butchers and MW Pet Shop.

The mid-week team continued their winnings ways in the Foss Evening League. Opponents Copmanthorpe batted first and the first wicket fell in the third over with a good catch by Matt Ware off the bowling of Alec Scott. P Daneshyar performed well and was the pick of the Copmanthorpe batsmen (45) but he lacked support at the other end and the visitors finished on 97-8 from their 20 overs. Matt Ware (3-18) and Scott Hardwick (3-15) claimed 6 of the remaining wickets, the other going to a smart run-out by junior Tom Burton.

LPCC started the run chase with some aggressive batting from Lucas Stephenson, who hit his very first ball for 6, but he fell for 39, bowled by Limbert. Copmanthorpe failed to take any more wickets and the Park won by 9 wickets with 9 overs to spare, thanks to Michael Drewery (36*) and Phil Jennings (15*).

Copmanthorpe: 97-8 (P Daneshyar 45, M Ware 3-18, S Hardwick 3-15)

LPCC: 99-1 (L Stephenson 39, M Drewery 36*, P Jennings 15*)
