In
the last game of the season the Londesborough Park Foss Evening League team faced
Aviva Vikings II, hopeful of a win and the chance to secure the top spot in the
league. Londesborough batted first and got off to a great start with Lucas Stephenson
hitting the first ball to the fence. Stephenson continued to put Aviva’s
bowlers to the sword and brought up his half century in only the third over of
the match. When Lucas was eventually dismissed for 59 Tom Eagling came to the
crease and carried on in similar fashion and finished on 66 not out, while Chris
Roper also made a very valuable contribution of 33 in a final total of 171-4.
The
Aviva reply started slowly with the first wicket falling with only 4 on the
board. J Pickles (72*) tried to hold the Aviva reply together but he and his
colleagues found it almost impossible to score quickly enough in the face of
some disciplined Londesborough bowling, and the Vikings reply ended 57 runs
short of their target.
This
latest victory assured Londesborough of the Foss League Division 4 title and
marked a highly successful return to Wednesday evening league cricket. Congratulations to Joel Taylor and to everyone who played this season.
