Londesborough Park Cricket Club News story

Match Report w/e 16th September

16 Sep 2018

On the final day of the season Londesborough Park entertained Scarborough, who needed a full 30 points and Goole to falter at Selby in order to avoid relegation.

Scarborough’s good fortune began early as they won the toss and invited the Park to bat first. Tight bowling by their opening bowlers kept the run rate low, going for less than 2 an over for the majority of the first half of the innings. It was the eighth over that did the damage though, as David Snowball (4-22) reduced the home team to 14-3 as the result of an impressive hat-trick. Only Martin Pearson (36) and Scott Hardwick (20) added anything considerable to the score after that and Londesborough finished their innings in the 42nd over on 92. Sam Ullyot and Charlie Hopper took two wickets each, alongside David Snowball’s four, and the bowling performance was supported by Tom Bussey who took four catches behind the sticks.

The Londesborough bowling reply started promisingly as Martin Pearson took the wicket of the Scarborough opener with just 9 runs on the board. The second wicket partnership of 58 between Joe Padmore (29*) and Brad Milburn (45) took Scarborough to a very strong position however, albeit with an element of good fortune as Milburn was given the benefit of doubt following a strong appeal for a caught behind early in his innings. With this platform in place it was only a matter of time before they crossed the finish line on 94-3, gaining the full 30 points they needed. A very tense hour followed before Selby’s win was also confirmed and Scarborough could celebrate their escape from relegation.

Londesborough Park I: 92-10 (Martin Pearson 36, Scott Hardwick 20, Sam Ullyott 2-24, David Snowball 4-22, Charlie Hopper 2-13)

Scarborough II: 94-3 (Joe Padmore 29*, Brad Milburn 45)

The Deep Blue Fish & Chips Man of the Match award went to Martin Pearson.

Despite the disappointing result for the last game of the season it has been an excellent year for the Park, with the first and second team both finishing third in their divisions and the Foss Evening team winning their division to gain promotion. A great performance by all and an excellent platform to challenge for promotion next season.

Londesborough Park would like to thank everyone who has supported the teams this season, in particular the ground staff for preparing the pitches, the umpires and scorers who do such an important job on the day, and of course everyone who has provided a tea this season for once again treating the team and visitors to excellent mid-match refreshments.

Londesborough Park would also like to thank their team Sponsor’s Britcom International and the Red Lion, and this week’s match ball sponsors Keith Price and Martin McCarroll.
