The sun shone at Pickering last Saturday and two of the Britcom International sponsored Londesborough Park 1st XI batsmen certainly made hay whilst it did as the Park continued their recent good form in Ebor division 2.
Success at the toss resulted in skipper Greg Drewery electing to bat, a decision that was borne out by a first wicket partnership of 55 between Ben Shingles and James Beevers, the latter being the first and only wicket to fall in the innings, when he was bowled by Keiran Boyes for 29. Charlie Rook joined Shingles and their team mates sat back and enjoyed the ensuing run fest as the pair produced an undefeated second wicket partnership of 195. Shingles completed his century, scoring 108 in 123 balls including 18 fours whilst Rook achieved 104 not out off 109 deliveries, scoring two maximums and 9 fours.
The host’s reply was a more sedate affair. Opener Shaun Smith (16) had his stumped rattled by Ciaran Brooke and Rook found a way through Ian Smith’s defence with the score on 78. Leslie Welburn and Robert Featherstone progressed the total to 109 before the latter became one of Mark Tissiman’s two victims, the other being skipper Charlie Marwood who failed to open his account. Rook struck again to dismiss Oliver Sigsworth and his fellow run machine Shingles bowled Ryan Taylor, reducing the hosts to 159 for 6. Rook then increased his tally to 3 with the key wicket of opener Welburn, caught by Tissiman for 70. Andrew Exton swiftly departed for a duck, run out by Tissiman and Shingles did for Tom Croot to virtually seal the victory. Unfortunately Joe Harland and Boyes refused to submit and saw Pickering trough to 169 for 9 at the death.
The Harpers man of the match award was shared by Ben Shingles and Charlie Rook who will look to continue their form with bat and ball at Clifton Alliance this Saturday. Flowers by Sally May kindly sponsored the match ball.

After their much needed victory at Copmanthorpe on bank holiday Monday the Red Lion sponsored 2nd XI hosted local rivals Pocklington last weekend but were unable to repeat their success as, with the exception of Ian Hodson, the batsmen failed to make any significant inroads.
Invited to bat first, five of the Park’s top six batsmen contributed a grand total of 16 as the innings stuttered to 49 for 5. Hodson finally found an ally in Rich Foster(17) in a partnership of 38 before his vigil was thwarted by Huw Jones just 3 runs shy of a half century. Joe Shingles chipped in with 14 but the tail couldn’t add any much needed runs as the Park were dismissed for just 112. Billy Higgins was the visitors’ most successful bowler with 4 for 20.
An early success in the Pocklington reply saw Jonathon Lister bowled by Foster for a duck. Keeper Hodson combined with Foster to dismiss Shawn Wilson for 20 and Ryan Curtis sent Dan Boneham back to the sheds with the score on 57. However the experience of Andy Inns combined with a half century from Neal Jackson saw the visitors home to a comfortable 6 wicket victory inside 31 overs.
Thanks are extended to The Paper Shop for the match ball sponsorship. The Park will have to up their game this weekend when they face table toppers Stamford Bridge.

On Wednesday 1st June the Londesborough Park Cricket Club annual golf day was staged once again at Hainsworth Park Golf Club, Brandesburton. Typical British summer weather saw competitors challenging the elements as well as the course in cold and windy conditions. However all entered into the spirit and a magnificent total of 34 teams completed their rounds.
The club extends thanks to all who supported the event and in particular sponsors RBM Agricultural Ltd, Beadle Motor Services, Flowers by Sally May and Holmemade Bakery and to the staff at Hainsworth Park for their help and assistance throughout the day.
In a very close competition the winners on count back was the team led by Charles Rook, closely followed in second place by Richard Craven team, both scoring 87 points. Nick Gamble’s crew claimed third prize, again on count back from S Robertson’s team, both scoring 86 points. The nearest the white line competition was won by one of the club’s vice presidents Brian Swann and the prize for the nearest the pin challenge went to another vice president Simon Wise. The ‘last chance saloon’ putting competition prize was shared by Peter Williamson and Richard Hanley.
The day generated a wonderful contribution to club funds in the sum of £2096. Congratulations to Margaret Milne, Malc Cartwright and all club members who contributed, particularly those who stood out all day in the wind, rain and cold.
