With no game for the 2nd XI Londesborough Park’s skipper Greg Drewery had the pick of the bunch for the Britcomsponsored 1st XI’s home fixture against Heworth’s second string.
Heworth skipper Joel Johnson won the coin toss and inserted the hosts who lost the services of James Beevers with the score on 23. The skipper (23) was the next casualty, swiftly followed by Phil Stothard who was unable to press the scorers into service. Charlie Rook (23) and Ben Shingles (12) found runs relatively difficult to come by and the visitors held the upper hand at 76 for 5. Tom Eagling became the thirdbatsman to score 23 before he departed, leaving Lucas Stephenson to produce the key innings with support from Michael Drewery (13). Stephenson was eventually bowled for 39 and the score nudged to 178 as Darren Moody and Joe Shingles played out the overs, the latter being run out off the final ball of the innings. Matthew Bradshaw took the bowling honours for the visitors with 4 for 50.
Heworth made a similar start to their innings as the Park. Moody and Joe Shingles removed both openers and Rook had Guy Wilkinson caught to reduce the visitors to 80 for 3. Skipper and keeper Drewery then ran out Bhimaraju but No. 3 Graham Hogben stood firm as further wickets continued to fall following the introduction of Tom Eagling. With neither side in a position to gain victory the contest petered out to a draw, Heworth finishing on 150 for 6 courtesy of Hogben’sunbeaten 65.
The Park took the lion’s share of the points (25) to consolidate 4th place in the division ahead of another home fixture at the half way point of the season against Carlton Towers this Saturday. The 2nd XI travel to Selby. The first team match ball was kindly sponsored by Mr & Mrs Appleyard.
