Britcom International sponsored Londesborough Park’s first team outing to Pickering last weekend ended as a damp squib when the inclement weather brought proceedings to a premature end. Skipper Tom Eagling finally won a toss and inserted the hosts who accumulated 113 for the loss of just one wicket in the 25 overs available before the match was abandoned.
The Red Lion sponsored 2nd XI finally broke their duck with victory against Copmanthorpe’s 1st XI. Batting first the Park mustered 165 for 4 in their allotted 45 overs. The runs were shared between four of the top five batsmen, Ian Hodson top scoring with 52 alongside an unbeaten 30 from Eddie Rook, 27 from Sam Dodd and 23 from skipper Ed Smith, whilst 24 extras proved to be a vital contributor. The visitors soon hit trouble in reply as a brace of wickets apiece for Rich Foster and Alec Scott reduced the score to 27 for 4, the latter taking a wicket with his very first delivery. Middle order resistance from Phil Holland (44) and Nathan Hawley (40) eased Copmanthorpe back into the contest but, with the score on 84, gloveman Hodson safely pouched two in a row to see off Holland and Chris Martin, both wickets claimed by Ryan Curtis. Chandrabhan Kushwa and Hawley threatened for a while but another two scalps in quick succession courtesy of a Sam Dodd run out and a third catch for Hodson off Steve Mudd’s bowling saw the visitors reduced to 121 for 8. Curtis then mopped up the tails to see the Park home with a 40 run victory.
Front runners for the Harpers fish and chips man of the match were Ian Hodson and Ryan Curtis whilst the match ball was kindly sponsored by Southgate DIY.

The Park made rare progress in the Edward Readman Trophy last Sunday, overcoming Woodhouse Grange’s second string in an 18 over a side contest. Batting first the Park was indebted to skipper Tom Eagling for his 64 in a total of 106. Tom Quinn with 4 for 26 took the bowling honours for the Grange. In reply Matt Durkin (64) scored over 75% of his side’s runs but a tight spell of 3 for 6 from Ciaran Brooke restricted the hosts to 83 for 8 and confirmed the Park’s progress to round 2 and a home tie against Driffield's 3rd XI.
