1st July Match Reportss

04 Jul 2017

Britcom sponsored Londesborough Park 1st XI finally secured a second win of the season in another low scoring encounter when they hosted York’s 3rd XI last Saturday. Skipper Tom Eagling won the toss for a change and elected to field. Tom Sowersby made an early breakthrough, bowling Oliver Scurry for a duck before the visitors consolidated with a second wicket partnership of 46 between David Brown and Bevan Fawcett. The Park’s bowlers then hit back with four wickets for the addition of just 13 runs as Sowersby added two to his tally, Joe Shingles had Brown (30) caught by Charlie Rook and James Beevers effected the run out of Charlie Robinson. Russell Bowry (31) and Matthew Scurry brought about a mini revival for the visitors but three wickets for Ciaran Brooke, a well deserved one for Tom Williamson and another run out courtesy of Shingles saw York dismissed for a below par 138 in 41 overs.

A brace of James, Beevers and Hanley, lead the Park’s response and posted 27 for the first wicket before the former was castled by Chris Hunter. Hanley dominated the second wicket partnership of 25 with Charlie Rook who was next to depart before a run out saw Hanley return to the sheds just 2 short of a half century. Michael Drewery then took up the mantle, supported by Eagling (16) and Lucas Stephenson (15), with a fine knock of 40 which all but took the Park over the line, Williamson striking the winning runs to secure a much needed 30 points.

Brooke, Sowersby, Hanley and Drewery all had the salt and vinegar ready for the Harpers man of the match award and meat provider Hagston's Butchers kindly sponsored the match ball.

York 3rd XI 138 (R Bowry 31, D Brown 30, B Fawcett 25, T Sowersby 3-27, C Brooke 3-28) Londesborough Park 1st XI 139-7 (J Hanley 48, M Drewery 40)

Desperate days for the Red Lion sponsored 2nd XI which had to concede last weekend’s fixture against Goole.

Ian Hodson’s under 9s’, sponsored by The Star Inn, Sancton, hosted local ‘rivals’ Yapham recently who made 300-5 in their innings as the inexperienced Park side, which included 6 debutants, bowled and fielded well. Batting was a little more testing as only Charlie Evans posted double figures with 15 as the Park boys totalled 253-6.  However the signs look promising for next season!
