Londesborough Park first XI entertained Goole on Saturday,
keen to come away with a result following the very close contest between the
two teams two weeks ago, when Goole came out on top.
Having lost the toss, Goole were destined to bat first. They
amassed 166, with a contribution of 45 from Matthew Cooper, who was bowled by James
Beevers as part of an impressive 5 wicket haul (5-20). James’ effort was
supported by tight bowling spells by Ciaran Brooke who’s 9 overs conceded only
20 runs and captured 2 Goole wickets.
Londesborough’s reply started well, with a stand of 52 for
the first wicket. Tom Jennings reached 33 before being stumped, and Lucas
Stephenson had another good day with the bat (54), before Charles Rook and Tom
Williamson reached the required 167 with just 7 balls to spare. The pick of the
Goole bowlers was Louis Sugden with 2 wickets from his 12 overs (2-29).
The Harper’s man of the match award went to Lucas
Stephenson.
Goole: 166-10 (M Cooper 45, J Beevers 5-20)
LPCC: 167-5 (T Jennings 33, L Stephenson 54)
Londesborough Park’s second team travelled to a derby game
against Woodhouse Grange IV. Londesborough won the toss and invited Woodhouse
to bat first. An early wicket by Joel Taylor encouraged the Park, but Trevor
Britain (56*) and Trevor Ainley (27) put Woodhouse back on course with a mature
batting performance. The run rate was steady however and the Woodhouse innings
closed on 139 for 6. The wickets taken included a smart run out by Joel Taylor,
who brought his footballing skills into play with an accurate side -foot into
the timbers.
Woodhouse also took quick wickets at the start of the
Londesborough innings and Londesborough found themselves on the back foot, mainly
thanks to Alex Boshoff (3-23). Steve Dawson (67*) and captain Edward Smith
(41*) settled in for the day however and steered the Park to victory without
the loss of another wicket and with 10 overs in hand.
The Harper’s man of the match award went to Steve Dawson.
Woodhouse Grange IV: 139-6 (T Britain 56*, S Ainley 27)
LPCC: 141-3 (S Dawson 67*, E Smith 41*, A Boshoff 3-23)
