Londesborough Park Cricket Club News story

Maurice Dodd

30 Jan 2026

Unfortunately I have to share the sad news of the passing of Maurice Dodd on Wednesday evening, aged 85. Maurice was an integral part of LPCC, both on and off the field for over 50 years and his loss will be felt throughout the community.
He arrived on the right side of the Pennines in 1973 and after meeting Margaret Milne and then succumbing to Pete’s powers of persuasion, he started his LPCC career in 1976 and continued playing until around 2004, and the rest is history. He came with a very good pedigree, having represented Derbyshire schools and Marple CC (Lancashire/Cheshire Lge), not that you would know it. Maurice was never one for self promotion, always modest about his achievements, but when he spoke, you listened. He was however, the best wicket keeper the club has ever seen, to the the surprise of many a bowler he would stand up to everyone and his leg side stumpings were a sight to behold, often too quick for the umpire. His two sons, Steve and Sam would go on to be regular players for the club and wife Sheila was often found making teas in the old pavilion. He was on the management team who were instrumental in gaining lottery funding for the new pavilion and his many roles within the club included, Pennant 1st XI captain, Vice chairman,VP, Junior coaching,Xmas draw and golf day stalwart, cricket tour enthusiast, after-match social chairman and latterly he was part of the ‘last of summer wine’ gang.
On behalf of the club I would like to send our deepest condolences to Sheila, Sam, Steve and their families at this difficult time.
