Londesborough Park Cricket Club News story

Chris Stephenson

28 Apr 2026

It is with sadness that I have to communicate the passing of Chris Stephenson, who passed away over the weekend.

Chris was an exceptional local cricketer who played cup cricket for Londesborough, notably helping the club win the Circle Cup , Pock Cup and the Humberside Federation Sunday league. He also turned out for North Cliffe, but it is at Beverley and then Scarborough he made his name. Playing for Beverley since the mid 60’s until the late 70’s, he captained the 1st XI for 10 years, winning cup and league trophies along the way. In the late 70’s he then moved to Scarborough to play in the Yorkshire League, breaking the clubs batting records in his first season and being invited to net at Yorkshire. A fierce competitor, both on the cricket field and latterly on the golf course, he could be often seen watching his boys Neil and Sam and more recently his grandson Lucas.

On behalf of all at LPCC, I would like to pass on our condolences to Neil, Sam, Rachael, Lucas and their families.

Charles Rook.
