LPCC 1X1 returned to action this past Saturday away at TABS after
a mid season break due to the inclement weather the previous week.
On arrival at the homely ground all the talk was of Tom Eaglings extremely hung over 170+ from a few years back.
Skipper Moody again kept his 100% record away from home of calling correctly and opted to bat first on the hottest Saturday of the season.
Opener Hanley had no trouble with the bowling of Parsons who didn't seem to realise the need for pitching the ball up as 2 balls were lost in the first over.
Stothard playing the anchor role rotated the strike with James in fine form. A opening partnership of 61 was ended when Phil was bowled by the laid back Kasana for 10, Greg joined James hoping to build on his previous games century but was unfortunate to be caught one handed by Bentley. Ben '1 game a month' Lewis joined James but was soon walking back after been caught at point trying to clear the houses. Hanley had now surpassed 50 as the TABS bowlers began to slow the run rate down and at 96/4 at the halfway stage a partnership was needed and it came when Nathan Saltmer swaggered to the middle. Both kept the scoreboard ticking and played positively striking the ball to the boundary. Saltmer showing his quality until out stumped for 36 and a healthy partnership of 79 was ended.
James Hanley remained positive and reached his first century of the season and 3rd for LPCC X1, his innings ending soon after as he was caught on the boundary for 109-if only he had a bat that wasn't broken it could of been more-
Wickets fell quickly soon after and the innings ended on 214.
After tea it was down to "laurel and hardy"(you decide whose who) to make in roads, Moody found bounce and Tissiman swing, made the early going tough for the home batsmen, Moody was replaced by Richard 'tan topped up' Foster for fitness issues and Tissiman began to make inroads with 2 wickets in 2 balls, another 2 quick wickets for Tissiman and the scoreboard read 40/4. Our very own king of swing Rhys Duerden took over from the 'ginge' and grabbed 2 wickets- 1 bowled and 1 caught 2nd slip by Saltmer.
Skipper Moody then turned to his secret weapon and centurion James Hanley who bowled quickly and swung the ball both ways as the the TABS batsmen struggled, James capping a successful day off with 3/10 and a well earnt fish and chip voucher. With 2 overs left skipper Moody decided he'd go for glory like former captain Charles Rook and bowled himself and claimed the final wicket.
TABS all out for 133. 30 points for LPCC.
